Special legislative schemes are laws that have a direct link to the planning system and are of significant environmental importance to the state.

The Minister for Planning must prepare a set of state planning policies relating to special legislative schemes for planning under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.

The Minister first established a suite of six state planning policies for special legislative schemes on 27 May 2019.

Special legislative schemes declared under the Act are:

  • River Murray Act 2003
  • Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary Act 2005
  • Marine Parks Act 2007
  • Arkaroola Protection Act 2012
  • Character Preservation (Barossa Valley) Act 2012
  • Character Preservation (McLaren Vale) Act 2012.
