Accredited professionals – council and regional assessment panel opportunities

Connecting councils looking for assessment panel members, with accredited professionals looking to take up the opportunity.

Overview

Council Assessment Panels (CAPs) and Regional Assessment Panels (RAPs) are bodies established for the assessment and determination of development applications in their areas.

The benefits of joining a CAP or RAP as a panel member are numerous, but to be eligible you must be an Accredited Professional (Level 2). Further information about gaining Level 2 accreditation is provided below.

Councils can search for Level 2 accredited professionals in their area via the Accredited Professionals Register. The register now shows people’s availability to serve on panels.

The Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) host regular training sessions on how to become a panel member and the benefits of doing so. Please refer to the Planning Institute of Australia website.

We also recommend you view the Assessment Panel Code of Conduct.

It’s now easier to gain Level 2 accreditation via the recognised qualification and experience pathway which is outlined in the updated Qualifications, skills and experience requirements for Accredited Professionals (PDF, 650 KB) (page 7).

More information on the accredited professionals scheme, including how to apply for accreditation, is available.
