The Rural City of Murray Bridge is planning for significant growth. Ongoing business and industry investment and jobs growth will therefore be needed to attract a new population and achieve the rate of growth envisaged.
Employment lands within Murray Bridge and its surrounds have focused on supporting the State, as a hub for major agri-business, innovation, green industry and freight logistics, giving the region a distinct point of difference from employment lands across the Adelaide metropolitan area and particularly northern Adelaide. This includes major, large-scale industrial land holdings associated with food production being located in Rural and Rural Intensive Enterprise Zones (rather than traditional industrial zones), well outside the township boundaries.
Proposed transport improvements, including the High Productivity Vehicle Network and Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass and proposed redirection of freight via Monarto South will also provide significant locational advantages for the establishment of these enterprises and industries, particularly in areas such as Pallamana in the northern part of Murray Bridge.
The Murray Bridge Structure Plan has therefore identified and prioritised opportunities to rezone some existing areas of employment zoned land to provide greater flexibility for a wider range of industrial and commercial uses, and provide areas of additional future employment lands to support industrial and employment growth in Murray Bridge in response to planned population growth. This includes a need to rezone large areas of land to support major industrial land holdings associated with food production in locations with good access to roads for heavy vehicles, power and water supplies.
