The proposal
The proposal is for a Battery Anode Material (BAM) Manufacturing Facility with associated structures, equipment and storage areas. The development site is located along Robinson Road, Waterloo Corner, directly adjacent to the SA Water Bolivar Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The Proponent, Renascor, is a South Australian-based ASX-listed mineral development company and is seeking to develop the Siviour Graphite Mine (Siviour) near Arno Bay on Eyre Peninsula. The mine would produce high quality graphite concentrates which would then be transported to the BAM facility at Bolivar and refined to produce Purified Spherical Graphite (PSG). PSG is an essential mineral resource used in the manufacture of anodes for lithium‑ion batteries.
The proposal includes the following components:
- construction and operation of an industrial plant
- equipment associated with chemical processing
- facilities to provide steam generation, produce nitrogen and compressed air, water demineralisation, negative pressure and dust mitigation systems and services
- provision of associated infrastructure and services (roads, stormwater, water supply, power supply, telecommunications, waste water treatment or disposal)
- ancillary infrastructure
- temporary facilities during construction phase.
The proposal has been declared an ‘impact assessed’ development by the Delegate of the Minister for Planning. The next step is for the proponent to lodge a detailed application to determine the assessment requirements for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process.
