About this document

These Regulations set out procedural requirements for the Accredited Professionals Scheme which is established by the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.

Any decision-maker involved in assessing development applications can apply online to become accredited under the new scheme.

Under the new scheme, planning and building professionals who assess development applications will maintain minimum standards of professional practice. They must produce evidence that they are qualified to make key decisions at certain levels.

A central database managed by the Department will register accredited planning and building professionals.

All accredited professionals must:

  • hold all required insurances
  • follow an accredited professionals code of conduct
  • take part in annual compliance checks
  • undertake specified units of continuing professional development.
