Consultation on Kangaroo Island Plantation Timbers' Amended Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Deepwater Port

Published Thursday, 24 December 2020

Consultation will begin in the New Year on Kangaroo Island Plantation Timbers’ (KIPT) proposed Deepwater Port.

On 22 December 2020 the company lodged proposed amendments to the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) with the Attorney-General’s Department’s Planning and Land Use Services division, in response to a request for more complete information, including in relation to:

  • traffic and access arrangements
  • further details about biosecurity management (marine pests)
  • further detailed design of the proposed facility.

Given the proposed amendment will significantly affect the substance of the EIS, the Minister has determined that interested persons should be given the opportunity to make written submissions on these amendments.

The consultation process is set to commence in mid to late January 2021 with details on how interested persons can lodge a submission to be published in The Islander and on the PlanSA portal.

Subject to any COVID-19 restrictions, an open house event will be held on Kangaroo Island during the consultation period, and representatives from KIPT will be invited to attend to answer questions about the development and provide any further details.
