AIBS reinstatement as a recognised equivalent scheme under the Accredited Professionals Scheme

Published Tuesday, 20 December 2022

The Australian Institute of Building Surveyors National Accreditation Scheme (AIBS) will be, once again, recognised as an equivalent scheme for the purposes of obtaining accreditation under the Accredited Professionals Scheme (APS).

This applies to accreditation granted for building levels 1, 2 and 3 on and from 1 January 2023.

This means that, whilst the grant of accreditation under the APS is a matter for the Accreditation Authority in its discretion, applicants accredited by AIBS at building level 1, 2 or 3 after 1 January 2023 will, once again, be able to submit proof of their AIBS accreditation when applying for accreditation under the APS. AIBS accreditation will be considered as evidence that the requirements of the APS, for the corresponding accreditation level, have been fulfilled.

This excellent result has been achieved following significant dialogue and cooperation between the Accreditation Authority and AIBS which has resulted in greater understanding of their respective schemes.

The Accreditation Authority and AIBS will be cooperating in future to ensure that the APS, related Continuing Professional Development and other requirements for building surveyors working in South Australia are of the highest standards.

This is a positive development which both the Accreditation Authority and AIBS warmly welcome.

If you have any questions about this matter, please contact the Accredited Professionals Scheme Coordinator on (08) 7133 3007 or AIBS on 1300 312 427.
