Far North Regional Plan

Closed 7 May 2025, 5:00 pm

The Far North Regional Plan sets a 30-year vision for sustainable land use, infrastructure, and environmental stewardship across the region. It addresses unique challenges of a remote setting, prioritising community connectivity, cultural and environmental preservation, including biodiversity, Aboriginal heritage, and support for vulnerable species.

With a population of 25,560, the Plan promotes diverse housing for an ageing population, workers, and tourists, while strengthening remote connections. Contributing over a quarter of South Australia’s energy needs, the region’s mining, renewable energy, and ecotourism sectors are poised for growth, supported by initiatives like the Northern Water Project and UNESCO World Heritage nomination for the Ikara-Flinders Range.
